Making Space for God: A Natural Approach to Spring Cleaning

There’s something so sacred about the shift into spring. The light lingers a little longer in the evenings, the air feels softer, and I find myself opening the windows just to let the breeze move through our home. It’s in these small moments that I’m reminded: our homes are not just places we live - as I always say, they are the spaces we are called to steward. As wives and mothers, are homes are how we honor God.
And with that shift into spring and that reminder of stewardship, I find myself yearning to clean, the cleanse my home from top to bottom, to scrub every inch of its walls and floors and ceilings until it shines as brightly as Heaven, until it is pure enough to be a temple worthy of honoring our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Spring Cleaning time is here mamas - but it’s not just about cleaning. It’s about renewal. It’s about rebirth. It’s about cleansing the home to cleanse the soul. It’s about eliminating the clutter that corrodes our spiritual health and blocks us from seeing and fulfilling God’s true purpose for us. Cleaning is both cleaning and a calling to something Higher.
We must clean to clear the path for the Lord to speak to us, Amen.
And it doesn’t just matter that you clean - it matters how you clean.

A Natural Approach
Do you know how many chemicals are in traditional home cleaning products?
I’ll give you a hint: it’s a LOT.
These chemicals are extremely toxic for your home and your family, but beyond that…they are MAN MADE. It will always be better to use GOD CREATED natural products in your home.
Shifting to more natural cleaning products is a gift in a million ways: not only do I feel better about what I’m using around my children, but it also brings a sense of simplicity and intentionality to the process…and it literally brings me closer to God.
It means I’m honoring him in every crack of my counters, in every pore of my skin.
Some of my favorite go-to staples:
White vinegar for glass and surfaces
Baking soda for scrubbing sinks and tubs
Lemon for freshening and gentle disinfecting
Essential oils for a soft, uplifting scent (we love YoungLiving oils!)
There’s something deeply satisfying about caring for our home with simple, wholesome ingredients.

Creating Rhythms, Not Rush
Instead of trying to tackle everything in one overwhelming day, I’ve learned to break spring cleaning into gentle rhythms. One drawer. One closet. One corner at a time. You know my philosophy is to “find meaning in the little things.” Cleaning is no different. You will find more depth of meaning in the small steps than in big, grand, sweeping gestures.
I put on worship music, light a candle, and invite my children to join me in small ways. It becomes less about “getting it done” and more about building a home together.
A Heart Check Before the Home Check-
Before I pull out the baskets and the baking soda, I like to pause and pray. I ask God to help me release any clutter…not just the physical kind, but the mental and emotional weight I’ve been carrying too.
“Lord, help me to create a home that serves my family well and honors You. Help me to eliminate the filth that pollutes this floor and this body. Help me clear these halls and this heart of all things that are not You.”

Making Space for What Matters
At the end of the day, spring cleaning isn’t really about sparkling counters or perfectly organized shelves. It’s about making space (physically and spiritually) for what matters most:
More room for laughter around the table.
More peace in our daily routines.
More presence with the people right in front of us.
More commitment to Christ.
More purity.
More cleanliness.
More purging of the sinful spirit.
A clearer path to God.
As we step into this new season, my prayer is that our homes would be places of rest, warmth, and quiet joy.
